Beyond the Grave

After ministering to the King of Israel from his deathbed, Elisha succumbed to a terminal illness. Oddly, despite being dead, God had one final miracle to accomplish through Elisha:

So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, behold, a marauding band was seen and the man was thrown into the grave of Elisha, and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet. – 2 Kings 13:20-21

Elisha was a forerunner to Jesus, in whom the authority to revive corpses resides (however, unlike Elisha, Jesus’ body never saw corruption). Here are the words of Jesus, just prior to proving His authority by raising Lazarus from the dead:

Jesus said to [Martha], “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” – John 11:25-26

Father, I pray You would help us to live in Jesus, and to believe in Jesus. Hope of life is found in Jesus alone, the resurrection and the life.
